Ministry Goals
The mission statement, ministry vision, and ministry foundations are to be manifested in the power that God supplies through:A. Preaching1. Local Preaching: My ultimate goal is for Treasuring Christ to be connected in, with, and through the local church. Although I hope to travel and spread a passion to treasure Christ among all peoples, my primary desire is to minister in the local church. Therefore, I long to serve one local body for thirty years (or as many as the Lord shall give), to labor through the books of the Bible, and rejoice with those who rejoice while weeping with those who weep.2. Itinerate Preaching: Until being called to serve a local body, I do want to preach as much as possible to those who will let me. And after being called to the pastorate, and under the supervision of the elders, I would hope to travel and preach (12-15 times a year) at events with the furthest reaching impact. B. Local Church Ministries1. Christ Our Treasure Community Church-plant: If it's the Lord will, my wife and I hope to plant a church in either Atlanta, Ga., or Birmingham, Al., in the next few years. I am burdened to be intentional in seeking church plants primarily in urban, downtown centers first. Therefore, culture would be engaged, unbelievers would be evangelized, and the poor would be ministered to. Lord willing, these church plants would be committed to planting other churches of like desires and passions.2. The Edwards Institute for Treasuring Christ Together: The goal of the Edwards Institute is that God would be glorified in students who not only learn to see the supremacy of Jesus Christ, but also learn to treasure what they see. And in doing this type of education, they might pour out floodgates of His splendor within local ministry. The education would be geared for intense academic study and intense doxological delight. The hope is to get the student to the point that he would close his books, get off of his knees, and go out to worship in global ministry. 3. Treasuring Christ Together Missions: I do not want an either/or church. We do not have to choose between urban ministry or frontier missions. I pray that the Lord would enable us to be a both/and type of church. My burden is primarily seeing the unreached people groups of the world Treasuring Christ through cross-cultural missions. And where Christ has been named, to support local, indigenous ministers in the spreading of Christ's fame. C. WritingIn the hope of leaving a lasting legacy, I desire to devote some time to writing and wrestling for the purpose of presenting, clarifying, and defending God's truth for my own generation. The only serious writing that I have begun is for a work called, God's Passion for Your Day. It is shaping to be an expositional, daily devotional that exegetes key texts from a daily reading plan and teaches the reader how to treasure Christ, mortify sin, and persevere in the faith by trusting the promises of God purchased through the cross of Jesus Christ.D. ConferencesAligned with the Ministry Vision , these conferences are planned to spread a passion for treasuring Christ to as many as possible by making it as affordable as possible for those attending. Upcoming plans for conferences are as follows: 1. Treasuring Christ in Racial Unity, Orlando, Fl., Feb. 2008. 2. Treasuring Christ Above All Things, Brisbane, Australia, 2008. 3. Treasuring Christ in the Family, Minneapolis, Mn., 2008/9. 4. Treasuring Christ in Expository Exultation, Mobile, Al., 2008/9. 5. Treasuring Christ for the Joy of All Peoples, TBD, 2009/10. E. Spreading Ministries1. treasuringChrist.net: The primary spreading ministry at this time is the website. It is my hope to primarily provide a life-time's worth of ministry for free through the website. It's also my joy to provide a library of other ministers' works that are lawfully obtained and respectfully provided for the edification of the church. The next two goals for the website (along with adding new material to existing sections) are a blog hosted on the TC.net domain and short, daily, video devotionals based upon God's Passion for Your Day. 2. Treasuring Christ Broadcasting: For almost a year, I have been dreaming a dream of a Reformed Christian TV channel that would provide solid teaching, programming for families, and an outlet for Christian creativity. The obstacles for this dream is huge, but with the prospect of providing internet-based programming just around the corner, perhaps it's not as far-fetched as it sounds. 3. General/future: There are other ministries which I have not fleshed out. But I have a heart for establishing orphanages, founding schools, supporting retirement homes, and giving to other ministries. |
